The spider and the mouse

i was thinking about this spider
not some fang wielding, venom dripping, hairy-legged Australian demon
just a normal house spider
with fine webs and the daily task of catching flies
sat on tiles
then goodbye
a glass in ratio of bus to moon
and sheet of paper whisks spider from the room
to place it nowhere near
in a garden with wasps and thorns and Flymo strimmer
i was thinking about the spider
what if that were uS. what if YOU, or i
sat innocently watching all the world go by
and just like that, a massive dome whips YOU from home
or worse, lights out... on back of slipper.
i was thinking about the mouse
while i reluctantly rhyme house, it was indeed, in my house
scurrying for food, just to feed
quick nosy out to check
the coast is clear and the mouse is out without a stutter
SNAP!
was it worth it for the peanut butter?
I was thinking about this mouse
what if that were uS. what if YOU or i
put in a slice
and when it popped and then YOU spread
the roof snaps down and YOU were dead.
i was thinking about this VIRUS.
the one we long to put behind us.
so many lost to something smaller than either
the MOUSE, or the SPIDER
and i was thinking about...
if it were the same.
